"Global Delivery Evolution" with Anurag Sethi

The discussion featured Anurag and the host, BITS Pilani alumni (1992–1996), who connected in Munich. Anurag's career began in pharma before he transitioned to IT around 2003, during the Y2K and IT revolution. Early outsourcing involved transition teams securing large 3–5 year deals and transferring knowledge, often facing hostile reactions from staff who felt their livelihoods were threatened. However, Anurag stressed that India’s success was driven by its talent pool, with cost serving only as a bonus. This talent evolution moved the delivery ecosystem up the value chain, shifting from operations towards development, design, strategy, and R&D labs, and fueling GCC growth. Anurag moved to Munich in 2013 for Infosys's BMW project, noting the German market was just beginning to adopt global delivery models. Acceptance of English as the common business language was key to leveraging global talent. Later, managing alliances for HP Software, Anurag became the bridge to major Indian SIs. This revealed that system integrators (SIs) acted as critical influencers and recommenders for customers, making partnerships essential for product companies. Currently, as Global Client Partner for SAP at Infosys (managing a $2.5 billion business volume), Anurag observes SAP’s push for a fully integrated application suite, challenging the "best of breed" concept. He views AI as a watershed moment. For SIs, the immediate mandate is to "recharge their core" and boost productivity. The future is a hybrid world; while 30% to 70% of tasks may be automated by algorithms, human teams must achieve higher productivity. Crucially, future global delivery decisions will be driven by which location offers the most creativity and ability to align with business problems, moving beyond a focus solely on low-cost locations. The near future promises "agentification," where technology agents will manage transactions and communications.
